Hi Scott and Bobby,
I wanted to write you both a quick note letting you know that I unfortunately can't make the trainings today! My week 1 schedule got the best of me this week and my workload has proven a bit too much to keep up with and commit to the trainings today. I am very sorry to miss them; I've thoroughly enjoyed the first two days and really appreciate the work you have both put into the institute. I am looking forward to incorporating what I've learned, and the resources you all have provided, into the next iterations of my class!
Thank you again for everything!
Best,
Bill

Hi Scott,
Absolutely. Yes, I am having the students develop a demand (i.e. a policy change) and then they start the campaign work. However, I am still struggling to figure out a way that they could get prepared enough to actually start meeting with decision makers and making their demands public (rather than just focusing on education/awareness/support building). In the quarter, I don't feel confident that they have the depth of knowledge and nuance, let along connections to the community, to make it that far in the process in just 10 weeks. So that is where I am struggling at the moment.
I would be really interested to hear if those doing the model in a quarter system are able to get all the way through it and if so, how they went about it!
I plan to keep offering this course and iterating it each time. One idea I have is to provide an optional independent study course that students could take in the subsequent quarter that would allow them to continue their campaigns under my guidance... since past students have said that they'd have liked an opportunity to continue with their campaigns.
So, we'll see!! Much appreciate your guidance and insight, definitely hope to stay in touch!
Bill

Scott’s response:
If the class was totally focused on social action, I think it would be possible to get through the Issue Development, Build Power, Research Tactics and Campaign Launch in 7 weeks, and then have 3 weeks for the Campaign Actions. It would be tight, but possible.
I do know Patrica Gibbs from De Anza is doing it in one quarter this spring. We will be holding 3 Community of Praxis meetings in the Spring with the 16 folks teaching, so we will learn then if any more are doing it this way. Try to jump on those Zoom calls!
Kindly, Scott
